Biology students compete in Biotechnology Debates

Ms. Ertmann’s Honors Biology students participated in the annual Biotechnology Debates this morning. The 24 finalists, dressed up for the occasion, debated the following topics in pairs:

1. Should embryonic stem cell research be publicly funded?

2. Should the FDA regulate a person’s access to their own genetic information?

3. Should the government create a DNA database of all US citizens?

The debates were judged by Mr. Basi, math facilitator, Ms. Blumberg, U. City Director of Communications, and Joseph Chunn, junior and AP Biology student.

The winners were Della Cox and Catherine Hoff for Topic 1, Aniya Gates and Matthew McMahon for Topic 2 and Kyah Donald and David White for Topic 3.
