The Music in Our Schools program is all about the arts with an emphasis on music being connected with the community.
“It’s a national program,” Mr. Shavers, the band director, said. “A month for the community to recognize the importance of music being a part of a child’s education.”
At 6:30 p.m. on March 8, the U. City marching band, along with Brittany Woods’ band and the four district elementary schools will be performing in the high school auditorium for the “Music in Our Schools” program.
Even though the marching band is more limited in numbers this year, they have performed at all the usual events.
“The numbers are smaller,” said Shavers. “But the quality of the sound is still good.”
Nevertheless, the band will perform a concert piece, which they have been rehearsing since the beginning of February.
“Rehearsal is sort of rough right now, but we have a few weeks,” Shavers said.
The performance is dedicated to showcasing the works of music in students’ lives and is open to the public.
