Hasan Houston Court Dedication

Hasan+Houston+Court+Dedication

University City High School hosted a gym and court dedication ceremony on January 20 to formally title the Edward Crenshaw Gymnasium and Hasan Houston Court. The dedication occurred between the girl’s and boy’s varsity basketball games against Webster Groves.

Crenshaw was the U. City basketball coach from 1974 to 1997 and made the top 10 list of Missouri high school coaches to claim the most wins. Houston was a three-sport letterman from the U. City class of 1976 who was later drafted into the NBA by the Houston Rockets but also played professional football for the Chicago Bears.

The U. City Board of Education approved the honorary naming last year, but the formal dedication was postponed until the basketball season.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams put in good efforts against Webster, but victories were just out of reach.

The Edward Crenshaw Gymnasium had packed stands with supporters of the teams and University City.  This night will be one to remember.

“I like our team because we don’t rely on just one player,” said junior Shanelle Asfaha.  “The crowd was very supportive, even after the loss, complimenting all the players.”
