Students view solar eclipse

On the afternoon of Aug. 20,people all over the country took a break in the middle of the day to view the first solar eclipse over this continent since 1869. Students at U. City shuffled out of their classrooms and onto the football field. Anybody viewing in the 60 to 70 mile wide-path from Oregon to South Carolina was able to see the total eclipse. As the moon began to cover the sun, darkness descended over the campus.
Students like Tyreese Jones, junior, enjoyed the eclipse for a few reasons.
“It was cool because when it was almost the total eclipse we saw the outline of the sun.”
From where the students viewed the eclipse, they experienced about 99 percent of the total eclipse.
“It was also a cool experience because it was a once, maybe twice, in a lifetime opportunity,” Jones said.
