Basketball is a big tradition for U. City. The team has always been very successful throughout their season. As we enter the 23-24 season we have had a really new start to the season with new coaches and drills. Entering the season playing St.Charles Luthern at a shootout tournament 11/18/23. (62-19 girls varsity) (84-57 boys varsity) This was a big success for a seasonal opener.

Lee Williams says, senior “this was a good game opener, we played well as a team, good chemistry, and it would help motivate us to play in our next game against one of the best teams”. “Always be better than yesterday” he says is a quote he is inspired by. His favorite drill is the 3 man weave.(Get at the end of the court, set up 3 lines. The middle person has the ball. he/she throws the ball to the right side, when you throw the ball make sure you go behind the person you threw the ball to. Then the person who has the ball throws it to the left.)

Jayden Creghtion, junior says “ he thought this was a game they would all win, it was good to get it out of the way. This game would further help us feel more motivated and fired up for districts”. “veni, vidi, vici” (I came, I saw, I conquered)is his favorite quote by Julius Caesar, his favorite drill is the “wall up drill” (1 person on each block, then 1 person under the basket and the coach passes the ball to one person and the person under the basket has to wall up to stop them from scoring)

Jaidyn Conners, sophomore says “the game felt great and they had a good result, and had a good time. This game helped motivate and boost my confidence”. Jaidyn says her favorite quote is “offenses wins games defense wins championships” Her favorite drill is “4 on 4” (one person touches line and everyone sprints back)

Skye Settles, sophomore, says “ the game was really good and was an eye opener for me, I got to see the pace of how the games would go and get a good analysis of the game. This game helped motivate me with my confidence in shooting”. Skye says her favorite quote is “offense wins games defense wins championships”
