Starting the season off on a disappointing note, the football team lost 40-0 to Hazelwood East on Saturday, August 25. It was the first annual “UCHS Bowl Game,” as the Lions squared off against the old school of new principal Michael Peoples. Despite a slow offensive performance, there were still a few big moments that sparked instant offense. Such as Lawrence Coleman’s 64 yards gained on two kick returns, and Darion Reed’s 30-yard completion to Carlton Thomas in the first half. Things were done on the defensive end too, with Anthony Mason’s 7 tackles and 2 assists. Although the Lions lost, the game drew a large crowd of excited fans, optimistic about a new season.
