Students glorify school fights

The hysterical screaming that comes from a hallway during a  fight is an unmistakable sound. It acts as an irresistible pull that gets students rushing towards it. A crowd forms instantaneously as punches are thrown and shouting comes from every which way.

Though school officials will say fights in school are extremely troublesome, some say that most students are drawn to them because of the schadenfreude they bring. And that boiling crowd is what keeps the fights going.

“People like to show out for a crowd,” said Emya Burton, junior.

Everyone knows the crowd is essentially more significant than the fight. The audience is what really gets the fight going. While Burton thinks bystanders do play a big role, she doesn’t think they’re the cause of a fight.

“People are gonna beef regardless but they do egg it on,” she said.

Elliott Hammones, junior, gave his insight on the role of bystanders.

“Bystanders, by them just standing there, are an audience showing they support,” he said. “They’re useless. They’re showing they glorify the fight.”

The entertainment fights give off might be too strong a force to resist. Therefore bystanders will continue to cheer as teachers and administrators will hopelessly have to continue trying their best, but failing to end this problem.

“Who’s gonna run towards drama, cause if I get hit it’s on,” said Burton. “Boy, girl, teacher, I don’t care.”
