Alumni, community members, administrators and teachers lined up on either side of a red carpet to greet arriving students on Aug. 14. The drum line, accompanied by cheerleaders, welcomed students back to school with lots of energy and enthusiasm. This tradition began two years ago and has been a big part of the U. City culture ever since.

The red carpet met students as soon as they stepped off the bus and led them all the way to the school’s entrance. Cameras flashed and people cheered, attempting to begin the year on a good note.

“The red carpet always makes me feel wanted in school,” said Cabria Shelton, senior. “The staff really wants me there and cares for me.”
